Superalloys
摘要
This chapter focusses on nickel based superalloys, materials that have been essential for modern aircraft engines. Specific engine applications are highlighted and the corresponding relevant materials properties are stated. The reasons why precipitate strengthening in the form of the gamma/gamma prime, ϒ/ϒ′, structure is so effective at strengthening and why, unlike other metallic materials, this strength is retained at high temperatures, are explained. The microstructural development that has enhanced the creep resistance of nickel based superalloys is also highlighted and explained.
