Spectrum Dynamics: Modeling, Analysis, and Design of Spectrum Activity Surveillance in DSA-Enabled Systems

摘要

In the previous chapter, we discussed the impact on network resource by data movements in the offloading process, but it is still not clear how to observe such impact. This is especially true for the spectrum resource, which is already scarce in existing wireless systems. On the other hand, future wireless systems are expected to host a large number of users with a variety of RAT, including dynamic spectrum access dynamic spectrum access (DSA), the coordination among which requires better understanding of instantaneous spectrum occupancy status. In this chapter, we study spectrum activity surveillance (SAS) to address what is the observable impact of mobile data. Due to the growing concern on spectrum efficiency, SAS is essential to dynamic spectrum access (DSA)-enabled wireless systems. As monitoring hardware is actively being developed, we take a modeling approach toward this question, such that the monitor model can be fine-tuned to describe spectrum monitors with different characteristics.
