Risk Assessment of Chemical Pollutants in Drinking Water

Safety concerning drinking water has become a serious threat to the human and animal kind and is increasing uncontrollably with widespread of industrialization and urbanization. Maintaining safe drinking water quality is highly required for healthy life sustainability. The reduced morbidity as well as mortality rate of developing countries is mostly because of the generation of safe and adequate consumable water. Chemical contaminants, majorly the organic compounds, play an important role in the contamination of drinking water. Although, guidelines are set for assuring safe drinking water, at certain cases, concentration of chemical contaminants exceeds the limit. The contaminants and their impact on environment as well as human health would be discussed in this chapter. Scope of toxicological evaluation of the chemical compounds would be outlined and explained in details. The current situation of drinking water quality across the globe and in the country would be compared.
