摘要

This book chapter presents a novel implementation of an energy management system (EMS) based on phasor measurement units (PMUs) at Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The basis of the PMU-based EMS is linear state estimator (LSE). The chapter describes LSE and its use cases that have been successfully developed, tested, and validated for the TNB system. TNB LSE uses PMU input stream in IEEE Standard C37.118 and real-time snapshot provided by the conventional SCADA-based state estimator from existing TNB EMS. The LSE server provides real-time PMU output stream in IEEE Standard C37.118 and generates LSE cases for external applications. Online cascading analysis application is used as a use case of TNB LSE. The online cascading analysis application screens all potential cascading events resulting from initiating events from the N-k contingency lists and ranks cascading events based on calculated performance index. Mitigation measures are then determined to alleviate violations for each cascading criterion met and tested in real-time.
