BC Hydro’s Experience with State Estimator in Real-Time Operations

This chapter presents some unique features implemented in state estimator (SE) at BC Hydro. The use of pseudo-measurements and load allocation factor for network observability in the pre-SE processing and the use of post-SE power flow for mismatch redistribution to smooth out state estimator solution errors are discussed. Some methods for maintaining state estimator that are used in day-to-day operation are also presented.
