Industrialization, consumption of pre-prepared foods, lack of physical exercisePhysical exercise, excessive use of electronic devices such as cell phones and laptops, urbanization coupled with the loss of natural vegetation spaces, etc., have exposed human beings by constantly living amid harmful elements that damage their health. Several pathologies come together to cause vascular damage. Among them, inflammationInflammation plays a predominant role, impairing the heart as the central organ of the cardiovascular system and its interdependence with other organs, such as the nervous and respiratory systems, causes individuals to develop low-grade inflammationInflammation that can increase over time. In this sense, it is mandatory to find new anti-inflammatory drugs that reduce not only levels of mediating molecules, but also impact mechanisms that underlie the appearance of inflammatory states. This chapter describes the effects of environmental elements that contribute to inflammation-induced damage and some results of clinical investigations of potentially anti-inflammatory drugs in the treatment of cardiovascular diseaseCardiovascular diseases.
