Mamlakhtiyut: The Silver Platter and Consolidation of Israel’s National Habitus

  • Alon Helled

摘要

This chapter focuses on the development of the state and academia in the period between 1948 and 1977, showing the weight of the first “Israeli” historians and the autonomization of the discipline in relation to Jewish studies. The chapter reveals the processes of expansion of Israeli academia, as well as the inauguration of Israeli history as a distinct field of research in Jewish historiography. It thus delineates continuity and change in state-academe relations and the formation of a state-centric national identity.
