Habitus, National Identity and State-Building

This chapter unfolds the framework of the historiographical field as well as the concepts of habitus and generations, prior to the empirical case of Israeli historians. It especially delineates the theorizations deriving from Norbert Elias, Pierre Bourdieu and Karl Mannheim vis-à-vis theories regarding the formation of national identities. It additionally analyses the historical profession as a maker of collective identities which are nationalized.
