Interactions Between Medical Devices and Blood Flow

This chapter focuses on simulating clinically relevant use conditions to design and test devices for cardiovascular applications. The chapter begins with an overview of techniques used to simulate blood flow use conditions in physical and computational assessments of medical devices. Three case studies follow, which demonstrate various techniques for understanding the interactions of blood flow with medical devices. Finally, the chapter concludes with particular use condition considerations for devices implanted in blood flow in various regions of the body not addressed by the case studies.
