Planing Hull Resistance
摘要
Planing hull resistance estimation is introduced, beginning with use of statistical data and coefficients. Semi-theoretical empirical methods follow, with outline of the CAHI method and the Savitsky Method applicable in the full planing speed regime. In both cases iterative solution to dynamic trim and force balance is used and the work of Shuford and Brown is discussed. Estimation of resistance from standard model test series is introduced with description of twelve different series. Regression analysis and development of prediction equations is introduced for those series where this has been carried out. A description is given of the drag and equilibrium determination for stepped hulls. Calculation of resistance of appendages is described, and the effect of operation in shallow water on drag at planing speeds.
