Anesthesia for the Parturient with Cardiovascular Disease

  • John Bouz,

摘要

Uterine contractions cause autotransfusion and increase pulmonary artery hypertension risking heart failure and arrhythmia. General anesthesia reduces systemic vascular resistance and can increase a right-to-left shunt. The right-to-left shunt reduces pulmonary perfusion and increases hypoxia. Oxygen is a pulmonary vasodilator and decreases the blood flow across the right-to-left shunt.
