In Vitro Fertilization

Conscious sedation is the preferred mode of anesthesia for in vitro fertilization due to multiple causes. The goals of anesthesia are physiologic stability, akinesia, analgesia, and patient comfort. The duration of the procedure is usually 15–30 min with the patient going home afterward. A combination of short-acting sedatives and analgesics is sufficient to achieve the needed level of sedation.
