The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: A Historical Introduction

This chapter will argue that due to population mobility, human trafficking, and globalization, national identity is not found in both Israel and Palestine, no matter from ethnicity, race, or land of settlement perspective. However, both groups slowly build up their identity via collective effort in handling catastrophes, the Six-Day War, branding other religious belief as heretics as well as Zionism Movement. After presenting a theoretical framework of establishing a national identity, this chapter conducts an empirical analysis of Israel and Palestine and concludes that the conflict is largely due to difference in knowledge between the two groups of people.
