Degenerative Disorders of Cognition

Chapter 13 explores the racial and ethnic disparities that are pervasive in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias clinical care and research, including differences in dementia risk, access to timely diagnosis and appropriate care, and inclusion in observational and clinical studies. The authors review the individual and societal costs resulting from inequitable care and the implications of underrepresentation of minoritized populations in research. Looking forward, the authors review the evidence for candidate interventions to improve equitable dementia care and increase the diversity of research participants, as well as highlight knowledge gaps needing further research.
