Global Equity in Neurological Practice

Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability and second leading cause of mortality globally, but this burden disproportionately occurs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This combination of a high burden of neurological disorders with a limited specialized neurological workforce and large sections of the population vulnerable to social determinants of health has resulted in significant inequities in the care received and outcomes for people with neurological disorders who reside in LMICs. In this chapter, we take a case-based approach to exploring challenges to providing quality neurological care in resource-limited settings as well as potential solutions that are generalizable and feasible in these settings.
