摘要

A brain tumor diagnosis not only causes mental and physical distress to patients, but also substantially impacts family dynamics, social life, work, and income, among other areas of patients’ lives. Even though there have been significant advances in the management of brain tumor patients, barriers to equitable health care still persist and disproportionately affect patients of particular identities. In the sections that follow, we discuss some of the complex health disparity challenges that arise at various levels of neuro-oncology care. We begin by presenting and discussing a case report of an African American man with a diagnosis of glioblastoma. We then discuss specific language and insurance barriers that minority populations may encounter when seeking care.
