Diodes
摘要
Resistors, capacitors, and inductors are linear components since their current versus voltage plot consists of a straight line. However, there are many applications, such as switching, that require a nonlinear behavior. The simplest nonlinear component is a diode. This chapter presents several ways to model a diode. Some of these models are simpler than the others, albeit less accurate. The method to devise models and how to choose between them given a certain context applies not only to diodes but also to all electric and electronic circuits. As a result, these are important skills to acquire and hone in the long run. This chapter also presents some important sample applications of diodes such as AC-to-DC conversion, lighting, and photodetection. In fact, we are constantly seeking new applications for diodes and all other electronic components.
