Testing Requirements of Anti-seismic Devices and Available Testing Facilities

This chapter examines the test requirements for anti-seismic devices, referring, in particular, to European standard. The importance of carrying out dynamic tests at the same velocity foreseen during the earthquake is highlighted. For each type of anti-seismic device, the various tests required, for both initial type testing and factory production control, are then examined. Test methods are explained in detail and examples of the results are shown. The requirements that the test equipment must have are then explained. The main testing machines, suitable for testing anti-seismic devices, existing in the world are then mentioned and their performances are compared. The design of one testing machine in particular is described in detail and all components explained: reaction frame, actuators, accumulators and control system.
