A Tutorial Review, Simple Energy-Flow Calculations, and Basic Definitions

This gives a brief history of the tutorial of simple mechanical energy and its conservation along with the definitions of kinetic and potential energy, and then a simple example of the rate of production of energy for buoyantly driven fluid flow. The quantification of energy flow is reviewed along with explanations of orders of magnitude and dimensionless numbers. An example is given of a fluid flow driven by energy flow, notably a water flow driven by the heat flow into a tube below a lake leading to a hot spring.
