Intrinsic Rheocasting Defect Study of an EN AB-42000 Mechanical Component

Foundry technology permits obtaining the most complex parts for the most diversified applications with excellent quality. An emergent process of casting is Rheocasting. This work aims to study the manufacturing defects obtained in an automobile component. The material used in this research is the EN AB-42000 aluminium alloy, and the manufacturing process was Rheocasting. In the development of this work, the Quickcast software was used to simulate the solidification process. Furthermore, the simulation software was used to check the presence of hotspots by altering the production parameters to minimize the defect distribution, obtaining information and considerations to take into account during the conceptual and production stages. In addition, experimental work was carried out to identify and quantify the Rheocasting intrinsic defects. This study allowed the gathering of data that, after being adequately dealt with, led to the characterization of types of intrinsic defects in the manufacturing process. With the experimental data obtained in this study, conclusions regarding design and production were deduced.
