Neutrophil/Lymphocyte and Lactate Dehydrogenase/Lymphocyte Ratios as Predictors of COVID-19 Severity

Discovery a reliable and useful biomarker or score that can assist physicians in finding patients who are at high risk of passing away is crucial, particularly for individuals who have severe COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019). In order to assess the neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and the lymphocyte/dialysis/lymphocyte ratio (LDH/L) as Factors that indicate for the severity of COVID-19 and prognosis in a group of patients from Egypt, a cross-sectional study was conducted. To acive this objective, the clinical demographic and laboratory data of 44 moderate and 41 severe confirmed COVID-19 Egyptian patients were collected, evaluated, and compared. We established that those who experience severe The COVID-19 virus possessed considerably, elevated levels of neutrophils, ferritin, CRP, and LDH, also had (p < 0.001) lower levels of lymphocytes compared to moderate patients. NLR and LDH/L ratio were extensively higher in patients who suffer from severe COVID-19with a median Interquartile range (IQR) of 6.64 (4.63 – 9.8) and 383.33 (267.65 – 693.62), respectively, while their medians (IQR) in moderate patients were 2.05 (1.42 – 2.83) and 130 (120 – 193), respectively. LDH/L ratio had higher area under the curve (AUC) (0.975) than NLR (0.924) with 97.56% diagnostic sensitivity and 90.91% diagnostic specificity. While the NLR had 78.8% diagnostic sensitivity and 97.73% diagnostic specificity. It is concluded that in Egyptian patients, the LDH/L ratio and NLR are reliable predictors of COVID-19’s severity and prognosis. They could be used as a rapid reliable tool for primary and timely controlling of COVID-19 patients.
