Effect of ZnO, CuO and Curcumin Nanocomposite on Liver and Kidney Functions in Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) Rats

Plant extracts conjugated with metal oxide nanoparticles acts as anti-oxidants and anti-cancer agents. This study investigated the effects of curcumin-modified ZnO and CuO nanoparticles (NPs) on liver and kidney function in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) rats. Aim: we aim to evaluate the effect of NPs conjugated with plant extract on liver carcinoma. Methodology: mixture of ZnO and CuO NPs with curcumin was prepared by green methods and characterized by UV-Vis, Eg, FT-IR, XRD, TEM and XPS. In vitro effects on HEPG-2 and HCT-116 were assessed. In vivo activities were carried against HEPG-2 due to having a more bioactive than HCT-116. LD50, dose response curve, oxidative stress, anti-oxidant activities, liver, kidney function tests, histopathological examination and Statistical studies were applied. Adult males albino rates 180–200 g, rats housed at 20 OC. TAM soln 200 mg/Kg for three months (I.P) causing HCC. Product 60 mg/kg injected each 3 days for 30 days (10 injections) (I.P). 100, 200, 400, 600, 700, 800 and 900 mg/kg were oral injected by a gastric gavage for LD50. Results: MDA, ALT, AST, creat and urea were decreased. SOD, catalase, albumin and total protein were increased. In conclusion, ZnO and CuO NPs with curcumin provide anti-oxidant, anti-tumor effects, no toxic and safe to use.
