State of Art in Voice Enabled Research: A Bibliometric Review

Voice enabled refers to the capability of a device or application to respond to voice commands or interact with users via speech recognition technology. This study intends to completely evaluate the field of voice enabled research by conducting a bibliometric analysis of 405 publications from the Scopus database between 1976 and 2023. Furthermore, this study emphasizes the field’s most productive and prominent countries, authors, sources, and journal publications, as well as the research subjects on which researchers have been focusing. The results indicated that the United States, India and the United Kingdom are the most productive nations in voice enabled technology. It should be highlighted that the most active and influential authors are Drygajlo, A. from Switzerland and Chang, S.E. from Taiwan. The Lecture Notes in Computer Science Including Subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics and the ACM International Conference Proceeding Series are the most active journals, and the ICASSP IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing Proceedings and Lecture Notes in Computer Science Including Subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics are the most cited journals. Meanwhile, the research article by Riegelsberger et al. (Int. J. Hum. Comput. Stud. 62:381–422, 2005 [1]) that appeared in the most-cited journals had the most citations overall. Many topics that are now being researched, such as voice recognition, artificial intelligence, and human computer interface, have been identified. The analysis also identified other recently researched keywords, such as voice assistant, voice command, smart home, and navigation systems, which might be further analyzed. The results of this research follow the pattern and expand the existing literature on communal voice enabled knowledge.
