Project Management for Modeling Urban Air Pollution Levels from Automobile Transportation

As of today, environmental safety of the country is an integral component of national security, determining the quality and comfortable conditions for all types of human activity. One of the most hazardous environmental problems in cities is air pollution. The concentration level of pollutants generated in the lower atmospheric layer exhibits spatial-temporal heterogeneity, which can be attributed to factors such as traffic intensity, composition of the traffic flow, meteorological conditions, geometric characteristics of the road network, local topography, the presence of greenery, regulated intersections, street orientation, and more. The article proposes an algorithm for assessing and managing the level of air pollution by automobile transportation, which allows for the prompt determination and prediction of the concentration of harmful substances. The assessment of urban air pollution levels was conducted in homogeneous elements of urban areas known as street canyons. Based on the Urban Street Canyon Model (OSPM), the level of pollution in the street canyons of the Pechersk district in the city of Kyiv was determined for the main harmful substances present in vehicle exhaust gases. The results of modeling the level of air pollution by automotive transport are presented in the form of a pollution map for the street canyons. The research results can be utilized for real-time forecasting of the pollution levels in roadside ecosystems. This will enable timely prevention of critical situations in which the concentration of pollutants exceeds permissible limits through the management of traffic flow parameters.
