Alternative Approaches to the Treatment of Male Infertility
摘要
Male infertility is an important as well as growing health problem, whereas impaired male fertility contributes to at least 50% of cases of couple infertility. Along with infertility management, the male partner in infertile couples should undergo a comprehensive andrological assessment to recognize and manage any modifiable risk factors that might cause fertility impairment. The current lines of therapy are still limited by the unknown etiology of some male factors, emphasizing the critical requirement for more efficient methods and/or medications. Therefore, besides the well-known formal treatment methods, there are additional alternative approaches to be added to manage male factor infertility, including modifiable lifestyle factors (exercise, nutrition, obesity, smoking, alcohol, and caffeine) and some other remedies (psychological and behavioral therapy, nonprescription medications, supplements, herbals, acupuncture, as well as scrotal cooling). This chapter sheds light on the different alternative approaches that could assist male factor infertility with varied levels of successful outcomes.
