An Educational Approach to River Restoration in the City

The restoration of river systems in cities has a new role in the twenty-first century, in the context of resilient cities, climate change, the water transition or nature-based solutions. In these fluvial and urban transformation processes, education must have a relevant presence, as a necessary strategy to improve knowledge and consideration of rivers amongst citizens, thus enriching their participation in decision-making and commitments for action. This chapter will attempt to analyse aspects of river restoration that can facilitate the development of critical and participatory education in the city, characterising the intervention models that are best suited to teaching and learning processes in schools and citizens. Finally, with a practical nature, lines of action are proposed at a constructive and educational level.
