摘要

Diseases impacting the central nervous system, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, pose significant therapeutic challenges due to their impact on a region that is complex to reach. Within this context, the utilization of polymeric nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery through the nasal route has garnered attention in research, presenting promising approaches known as nose-to-brain systems. Moreover, a comprehensive understanding of how these nanoparticles interact with the nasal cavity or respiratory epithelium is still lacking. This chapter aims to explore the primary advantages and hurdles associated with the use of polymeric nanoparticles in treating diseases like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Furthermore, we present important aspects related to the nose-to-brain route that should be considered in the development of pharmaceutical formulations.
