Support
摘要
Men are often branded ‘hard to reach’. However, healthcare is rarely designed through a gender lens and the majority of support options available are tailored more towards the way women tend to engage with support. This chapter focuses on the ways men discuss preferring to receive and access support and who they choose to open up to. I discuss what men want from their clinical team, whether male-only support services are preferred, and the role of family and peer support. The chapter also includes what works for men in designing support services in terms of the setting, facilitating communication, and providing a clear purpose. The chapter finishes with an overview of two exemplar interventions for supporting men (Men’s Sheds and Football Fans in Training).
