Democratizing Supply Management

In this chapter, I discuss some potential reforms that could address the problems that have appeared in past agricultural systems concerning participation and democracy. Specifically, I speak to issues of sexism and racism, while also adding the potential for labor to become involved through unions and community-based organizations (CBOs). I also dedicate a section to how pilot projects, akin to some that the EPA has launched in terms of creating spaces for stakeholder engagement in councils, could become part of revised supply management initiatives that embody the principles of market democracy.
