Investigation of Specialized Phantom for Quality Control

Lack of quality control equipment and insufficient personnel are the main challenges in conducting quality control of the x-ray devices under investigation. This study investigates the possibility of using in-house developed physical phantom dedicated to quality control processes. The main components of the study is the manufacturing of the phantom through a 3D printing process and the use of an x-ray radiography system. The phantom was imaged at the x-ray imaging system once a week over the course of four weeks. Subsequently, the acquired data was evaluated visually and processed to extract statistical features. The average value obtained over the four weeks for the three energies remained consistent. The exception is the case of “Low energy” during the first week of measurements. After the experiments performed in “Week 1”, the x-ray unit was found to be malfunctioning and was subjected to repairs. The in-house developed phantom can be used in evaluating the x-ray system performance.
