Biocompatibility Investigation and Preliminary Tolerability Observational Study of the Dermatocosmetic Emulsions Based on Saffron (Croccus Sativus) and Lady’s Bedstraw (Galium Verum) Extract

One of the most popular dermatocosmetic product, emulsions are modern systems based on two immiscible liquid phases and can be classified according to several criteria. Emulsions are formulated using a wide range of active substances according to our therapeutic objective and are enriched with other ingredients that make the product more pleasant and easy to use, depending on belonging to cosmetics or dermato-cosmetics category (the latter being a category with minimalist formulas and more rigorous formulation criteria). This paper presents 2 of the investigations carried out on 2 proposed formulas for oil in water type emulsions, creams dedicated to the daily care of sensitive skin, with or without rosacea, an emulsion that combines the moisturizing properties of water in oil type emulsion with the special sensory properties of an oil in water emulsion. In addition to the ingredients chosen in the formulation of the emulsion base, ingredients approved for use for cosmetic purposes, the formulas investigated in this paper contain plant extracts selected for their antioxidant effect: Lady’s bedstraw (Galium verum) and saffron (Crocus sativus). Investigations are related to biocompatibility and tolerability aspects in order to support the topical use of the products.
