Dynamic Vapour Sorption Analysis in the Preliminary Evaluation of Silicone Impression Materials

摘要

DVS analysis can give dental professionals important information about the moisture sorption behavior of condensation silicone impression materials, allowing them to make informed decisions, improve the quality of their clinical work and enhance the overall patient experience. By selecting the right materials and customizing their use based on DVS-derived data, dental professionals can achieve more accurate and reliable results in restorative and prosthetic procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate how two condensation silicone impression materials, one putty, and one light body, commercially available and frequently used by clinicians, behave in terms of moisture vapor sorption capacity, as they have to perform in the oral cavity, which is an aqueous medium. Both materials have shown hydrophobic behavior in relative humidity, the putty condensation material having greater specific surface area, thus having a greater water sorption capacity, as compared to the light body material. These findings can offer insights into how condensation silicone impression materials interact with moisture, improving the choice of impression material.
