The Clinical Utility of Accurate Testing of MDR Bacterial Strains in a Gynaecological Hospital Associated Microbiology Laboratory
摘要
The high prevalence of multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains is a challenging medical issue worldwide. We have selected four suggestive cases from our detected MDR bacterial strains, identified in new-borns: ESBL producing Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli, a case positive for Serratia marcescens and a pregnant woman positive for MRSA in vaginal discharge, postpartum. For each case we have performed a selective, qualitative analysis of scientific literature. Our cases are in line with recent, modern discoveries regarding the risk of outbreaks with MDR strains, which emphasize the need of a proper antimicrobial stewardship implementation program.
