摘要

There is a pressing need for a non-invasive, sensible, and specific method to diagnose dysphagia, given its high prevalence rates and associated costs. This research presents a comparative analysis of surface electromyography (sEMG) signal characteristics of supra and infrahyoid muscles across two distinct cohorts: healthy and post-stroke dysphagic elderly patients. The study reveals significant disparities, including delayed muscle contraction response times and physiological deviations in muscle contraction timing among the patients. Furthermore, it highlights an increased sEMG signal activity within the initial 500 ms of contraction in dysphagic patients. Consequently, this article sheds light on the potential effectiveness of EMG in diagnosing dysphagic patients.
