Medical System Based on Physical Therapy Robotic Assistance for Developing Motor Skills

Robotic systems are used to facilitate muscle rehabilitation programs for patients with myopathies and for medical personnel. In this paper, a robotic system is proposed for the rehabilitation of muscular atrophy of the upper limb muscle groups, using a co-robot controlled by the signals collected from the patient with the help of the Myo Armband. The armband has the ability to retrieve from the upper limb the electromyographic signals of the muscle groups, the position in Cartesian coordinates and the rotation of it. These data are transferred to a computer or a smartphone, where it is processed and transmitted to the co-robots in order to be converted into movements. This process will provide positive feedback for the patient that will encourage him to exercise more of the affected muscle groups of the upper limb.
