摘要

University campuses are multifunctional spaces that combine teaching and research facilities, recreational activities, and possibly student housing. With a significant number of users and as major travel attractors, they are crucial nodes in the transportation network, influencing urban and suburban traffic flows. Integrating the campus transportation network with urban transportation systems requires specific planning with the aim of promoting more sustainable and safer transportation options and minimizing the impact on neighborhood mobility. Any strategy must start with an analytical understanding of attendance and ongoing monitoring of modal choices for university-generated travel. In this context, the paper describes the strategy and tools allocation for extensive survey and monitoring of transportation demand to and from the University of Parma campus. The traffic survey and attendance assessment were carried out by analyzing data, without storing sensitive information, from video recordings, inductive loops, and the university’s Wi-Fi network connections, as well as measuring some key parking indices. The results will be the starting point for tracking the effectiveness over time of policies and actions that encourage the reduction of car use, the use of shared transportation, and the promotion of active mobility.
