An Enlightened Financial Innovation
摘要
Offers a historiographic overview of the Church of Scotland Scheme for Widows and Orphans of Ministers and Professors. Discusses the care for widows over the ages, the role of the church, and the acceptance of the Westminster Confession of Faith as a prerequisite for joining the first Presbyterian annuity scheme. Discusses the comments of Yuval N. Harari and Niall Ferguson on the annuity scheme, and places the development of the idea within the literature on the Scottish Enlightenment. It concludes by offering sources for additional reading and references.
