Plasma Product Transfusion: Fresh Frozen Plasma, Cryoprecipitate, Intravenous Immunoglobulin, and Albumin

The indications for use of plasma products in transfusion medicine are diverse. Fresh frozen plasma (FFP) and cryoprecipitate are among the most overused transfusion products in medicine with many of their real-world clinical uses not supported by evidence. Here, we will review FFP, cryoprecipitate, intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), and albumin infusions with particular emphasis on preparation and components, administration, indications for use, and potential adverse events (AEs).
