Blood transfusion is a key therapeutic procedure for patients with hematological and oncological malignancies. In the last two decades with the advancement of newer testing methods for infectious disease screening and optimization of transfusion guidelines, blood transfusion is a much safer procedure. Blood collection and dispensation is a complex process, and for simplicity, we will cover history, pre-transfusion testing of blood components, blood product modifications, guidelines to transfuse, and adverse events of transfusion.
