Hereditary and Acquired Iron Overload Disorder

Iron overload disorders are the clinical conditions where there is deposition of iron in the body tissue or organ leading to organ damage. Iron overload disorder could be primary or secondary. Primary iron overload is caused by congenital disorder known as hereditary hemochromatosis whereas secondary iron overload is the acquired disorder from excess blood transfusion, conditions leading to ineffective hematopoiesis and from liver diseases.
