Assessment Tools in Microsurgery Training and Clinical Practice

Microsurgery training is paramount before clinical practice. Nowadays, the training curriculum for microsurgery is centered mainly on synthetic, inert organic, and in vivo simulation models. The transition from training in the lab to applying skills in the operating theater is pivotal. Validated microsurgical assessment tools play a crucial role in ensuring accurate evaluation of trainees’ microsurgical skills. This chapter aims in its first part to present and analyze current validated microsurgery assessment tools, providing insights into their utilization in modern microsurgery training. Subsequently, the second part of this chapter focuses on different assessment tools that can be used in clinical practice for the objective evaluation of microvascular patency and blood perfusion, both intraoperatively and postoperatively. The aim is to provide a comprehensive overview and practical guidance on the utilization of diverse assessment tools for microsurgery clinical practice.
