This chapter reviews the critical role of surgical educators as leaders in imparting knowledge and skills to future generations of surgeons. Exploring both local institutional and broader societal levels, the chapter examines factors influencing educational leadership, including organizational dynamics, roles of associates and supervisors, job demands, and environmental forces. It highlights the characteristics of effective leaders, emphasizing honesty, forward-thinking, inspiration, emotional intelligence, and competence. It discusses important leadership styles such as task and relationship behavior. The chapter underscores team growth and teamwork dynamics in educational settings, the need for adaptability in teaching methods, and the potential of technology in enhancing surgical education.
