Practice Adaptation During Crisis
摘要
Although residency programs teach fundamental skills for dealing with crises in patient care, there is a lack of training regarding system-wide practice crises. This chapter draws upon the authors’ experiences in handling a crisis in three different situations: unexpected and sudden loss of a key team member, crisis on a global scale requiring internal adaptations (i.e., COVID-19), and cybersecurity attacks. The importance of communication and collaboration, as well as knowing the overall mission, strengths, and weaknesses of an organization are all highlighted with regard to adaptation during a crisis. The authors hope that this chapter offers valuable lessons and sheds light on necessary adaptations required to maintain stability and overcome challenging situations.
