Ups and Downs in Intercultural Encounters
摘要
This chapter focuses on the nature of intercultural encounters, places, scenarios, and participants. It continues to highlight the relevance of interculturality in different walks of life by examining the phenomenon of face, cultural competence, speech acts, multiple intelligences, and the concept of cultural intelligence. The chapter also sheds lights on the present-day needs in cross-cultural communication, and focuses on some obstacles that might arise here. Along with the customary practical activities we also provide a SWOT analysis for users, which has the goal of illustrating market demands and the skillset needed for success/survival in such a market. Since we are now approaching the midpoint of the manual, the chapter also introduces a comprehensive lesson plan task in which we summarise everything covered so far.
