Blue-Green Infrastructure for Urban Resilience and Sustainability in Developing Countries

This chapter comprehensively analyzes the role and importance of blue-green infrastructure in improving urban resilience and sustainability, mainly in developing countries. The Bankruptcy begins by setting the context for urban resilience and sustainability, highlighting the growing importance of cities in the twenty-first century and the challenges posed by urbanization, climate change, economic crises, and pandemics. This highlights the need for a comprehensive strategy to deal with these demanding situations that specialize in adaptability and long-term sustainability. The chapter discusses the capability of the blue-green infrastructure (BGI) method in developing countries. It describes the particularly demanding situations of these countries, including rapid urbanization, limited resources, socioeconomic vulnerabilities, and the impact on adjacent ecosystems. The BGI technique, which integrates sustainable water management with the security of green spaces, is proposed as a response promoting resilience, sustainability, and social equity. This approach benefits all residents, not just the city's elite, by presenting environmental offerings such as improved air and water quality, recreational spaces, and expanded biodiversity. The chapter addresses situations requiring BGI implementation, technical and monetary constraints, governance issues, and the need for cross-sectoral coordination and integrated planning.
