Is It Time for a Borderless Real Estate Platform?

The digital transformation of various industries has led to the adoption of responsive software applications that incorporate genuine user feedback and enable end-to-end implementation. While long established in IT, this approach has also been embraced by other sectors like construction. Multi-sided platforms (MSPs) continue to be an important research area. Like global trends, post-COVID-19 migration within the United States has seen people relocating to more affordable states, cities, or even outside the country. Remote work has further enabled this flexibility, resulting in heightened demand for real estate inventories in certain areas over others. This paper hypothesizes that current global conditions necessitate improving the real estate supply chain delivery mechanism through an MSP-based Borderless Real Estate Platform (BRP). It aims to advance comprehension of emerging technological trends in digital transformation, specifically regarding multi-sided platforms. To evaluate this hypothesis, we define the BRP, analyze it with respect to existing MSP research, and conclude based on relevant literature. This leaves room for future research across industries from a global perspective and further BRP design developments.
