Final Thoughts on Sustainable Urbanization

This chapter contributes to the scholarly and policy debate on sustainable urbanization by discussing the substantive, conceptual, and methodological innovations our pan-European research. Recommendations are provided for policymakers committed to making urbanization more sustainable in the form of inspiration rather than instruction. Recommendations are also provided for future research by noting loose ends and untested hypotheses. We conclude with a call for more attention for sustainability among spatial planners and more attention for spatial planning among environmentalists.
