摘要

Our introductory examples are two iconic ordinary differential equations (ODE) lying at the heart of mathematical biology—the natural growth equation and the logistic equation. We show how these ODE are derived, solved, and used to model census data. Along the way we introduce ODE terminology, a simple calculus technique for solving certain first order ODE called separation of variables, and two kinds of exponential regression.
