Additionally, most of the solutions require adapting or reconfiguring orchards to autonomous tractor-robots, which implies significant investments. However, regionally, 74% of fruit orchards in the Alto Valle of Río Negro and Neuquén belong to small family producers, who typically possess old tractors with models ranging from 1970 to 2000. In order to propose a long-term solution for autonomous navigation in local fruit orchads, this article presents the architecture of an embedded system utilizing low-complexity sensors to capture the necessary signals for localization (position and orientation) of any regional old tractor within its working environment. An evaluation of the sampling frequency achieved by the selected sensors and developed software is provided, along with an analysis, employing a state-of-the-art Visual-SLAM algorithm, of the image sequences that can be captured using the proposed system.
