Neuromuscular Disorders
摘要
Neuromuscular diseases, as an admitting diagnosis, can present with life-threatening symptoms requiring admission to the intensive care unit (ICU). This chapter provides an overview of the main neuromuscular diseases that may be seen in the ICU. The discussion includes an examination of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, and management of each disease. A thorough understanding of these conditions is essential for the neurologist and critical care clinician in order to diagnose, treat, and manage patients effectively and minimize complications. Herein, we provide a comprehensive resource, highlighting the key aspects of each disease and providing the latest evidence-based recommendations for their management in the ICU setting.
